Our Programs and Curriculum
At Munchkinland 2.0 we strive to provide the best educational and developmental foundation. We are committed to caring for your children in every aspect possible while they are in our care. We encourage and work on learning, which includes, but is not limited to, literacy, math, science, sensory, fine and gross motor, and social-emotional learning. We pride ourselves on continuous growth, education, and research, therefore we are taking part in the Great Start to Quality program that is offered in Michigan.
In our center, we have three age levels we specifically focus on:
Infant
Our 6 weeks to 1 year old room
Toddler
Our 1 year old to 2 year old room
Our 2 year old to 3 year old room
Preschool
Our 3 year old to 4 year old room
Our 4 year old to 5 year old room
We create our lesson plans based on themed weeks over the course of the year. Our lesson plans are created by us to make sure we are able to tailor them to our center. All lesson plans are continuously evolving to make sure we are adjusting to what works for each individual child and each class of children that come through the center. We have a base lesson plan for the year, but allow for flexibility. Each lead teacher has the lesson plans available to them, to which they may tailor specifically to their classroom.

Staff member routines such as diapering and feeding are on demand. These routines are built into a schedule and carried out throughout the day. Research tells us that 90% of all learning occurs within the first three years of life. At Munchkinland 2.0 we take advantage of this by providing planned and stimulating opportunities for children. These opportunities are designed for individual children to maximize their language, cognitive, physical, social and emotional development.
Please supply the following items and label with your child’s first and last names:
Diapers
Wipes
Ointments (with permission form)
Pacifier
Bottles (pre-made)
Baby food (until child eats from the school menu)
Nasal syringe (nose cleaner; with permission form)
Fitted Crib sheet (pack-n-play size or mini crib size)
Blanket (for rocking and soothing)
Changes of clothes
Please note that cribs are a smaller size that traditional cribs and the sheets need to fit snuggly (search for pack-n-play sheet or mini crib sheets). If your child takes a bottle, you need to provide enough bottles and milk for the entire day of care. Bottles MUST be labeled with: child’s first AND last name, ounces, breastmilk or formula, and the date. If the bottle contains breastmilk, two dates must be provided on the bottle label: the date pumped and today’s date. Each bottle must also have a cover on it. If you supply any food for your infant it must also be labeled. See examples below on how to label it.
Bottle Labeling Example:
John Smith
8oz formula

Food Labeling Example:

Please take home any unused portions at the end of the day. Any unused formula from
a feeding will be discarded at the end of the feeding time. Please fill bottles for single feeding only, we cannot reuse unfinished bottles. Do not send in glass bottles. Please note that infants are fed on demand and we will need an adequate supply of bottles and food. Please note that all items brought in that are washable, will be washed once a week, unless needed sooner.

Toddlers are encouraged to express their individual interests through interaction with each other and through hands-on environmental experiences. Our staff encourage emergent communication skills by engaging the children in conversations, and helping to resolve conflicts peacefully.
Classroom teachers provide the children in their care with theme-based activities and center-based classrooms that are rich in literature. Independent skills are fostered throughout the day with emphasis on daily living skills like pottying and meal times.

The preschool years are widely recognized as providing the foundation for lifelong learning. Children develop significantly in their physical, social-emotional, and cognitive areas during the preschool years. The adults in their lives and environment influence all of these areas. At Munchkinland 2.0 play is promoted as the major vehicle for learning. Children’s self-expression is encouraged in our music, art, dramatic play, library, block, writing, math, and science center. Classrooms are rich with literacy and in numeracy, continually emphasizing preparation for upcoming school years.
Teachers provide developmentally appropriate lesson plans with emphasis on emergent curriculum. This assists with the development of self-help skills and a respect for others and materials. Activities are planned to challenge but never frustrate a child. Self-worth
is gained as a child successfully masters age appropriate tasks.
